Where do Tourists Come From?

In the record year of 2019, Romania was the top source market for Bulgarian tourism with over 2.1 million arrivals, followed by Turkiye and Serbia. Visitors from Western Europe (Germany, United Kingdom, France) are also consistent contributors. Geographic proximity is a key driver.

Shifting Markets

Romania remains the steadiest top market, growing from 1.8M to 2.2M over the decade. Russia tells a different story — after peaking in 2013, Russian arrivals fell nearly threefold amid sanctions and geopolitics. Turkiye grew consistently while Germany stayed flat.
